About INDESmed Cane Ferrule
INDESmed cane ferrule — a high-friction rubber tip reinforced with nylon, shaped for a wider contact angle than a conventional ferrule, for 19 mm tubes in yellow, purple and black.
A wider contact angle where it matters
A cane does not meet the ground flat. It lands at an angle as you step and leaves at another as you push off, and a conventional ferrule only makes full contact somewhere in the middle of that arc. This one is shaped to keep contact across a wider range of angles, which is where the grip is actually needed — at the start and the end of the step.
The rubber is a high-friction compound and the nylon reinforcement stops an aluminium or carbon fibre tube from cutting through it from the inside, which is the usual way a ferrule fails. It is latex-free, weighs 38 grams and is made for INDESmed’s oval crutches but fits any round 19 mm tube.
Benefits of the ferrule
- High-friction rubber for a secure grip
- Nylon reinforcement that resists the tube cutting through
- Wider contact angle than a conventional ferrule
- Latex-free
- Fits 19 mm tubes
- Three colours: yellow, purple and black
When should you replace it?
Check the ferrule regularly and change it as soon as the tread shows wear — a worn ferrule is the single most common reason a stick slips. See more cane tips in our range, and read the NHS guidance on walking aids.
